Don't forget to Cc:Betty

in

Cc:Betty is a website that tries to make it easier to track group conversations.  All you need to do to sign up for the service is to create an email and Cc' betty@ccbetty.com.  This will automatically create a website for your email thread and will also allow anyone included in the email to view the email's website.

This service is free and very easy to sign up for (remember all you need to do is Cc:betty.  I see this product being useful for organizations and clubs, where you are sending emails to a bunch of people.  This way anyone can go in and view all the emails relating to a particular conversation, even if they accidently deleted them in their personal mailbox.

Cc:Betty has other features that make it easier to view information from your emails.
    - If photos are included in an email, betty will automatically create an online photo album for those photos.
    - Any dates will be turned into downloadable calendar events.
    - Attached documents or links are organized into a easily viewable format.

Better Email for the iPhone

in

While the iPhone's built in email software works well, it doesn't offer a great deal of  extra features.  This makes the iPhone a good option for checking your email and replying to messages, but it doesn't have the robust email capabilities some people need.  All my mail hopes to meet the needs of users who have more complex email needs.

Some of the features of All my Mail are:

  • Ability to search through old messages.
  • Allows you to sort emails by conversation.
  • Automatically stores contact information.
  • Currently supports Gmail, AOL and Outlook email.

Like much of the software I review here All my mail comes in a free and premium version.

Free iPhone App Allows You To Search Emails

in

One glaring limitation of the iPhone is that you cannot search emails.  While this is something that is supposed to be fixed in OS v3.0, this search will only look in the email header (to, from, subj, date). reMail is an iPhone application that provides a full text search (meaning it also looks into the body of the email).  Best of all reMail is being offered free in the Beta version.

Document to Big to Email, Upload it.

in

I ran across a neat website (issuu.com) today that allows you to upload documents and have them viewed for free. This can be very hand with you have a large pdf or powerpoint document that is too big to email. The free version is supported by ads. If you don't want ads displayed issuu offers reasonable rates for Pro version.

Orchestrate is a new project management tool that runs on the web as a software as a service (SaaS).  Orchestrate allows a business to collaboratively create schedules, projects and tasks.  One key feature with orchestrate is that you can tie tasks to a specific location.

Like many SaaS offerings you can have two users for free, five users will cost you 19.99 a month.  You can pay higher rates for additional users if you need them.

Don't Want to Fork Out Hundreds of Dollars For Microsoft Office? Check Out Zoho.

in

In my long lasting crusade to help small business reduce our dependence on Microsoft and find affordable software, I recently ran across an interested website called Zoho.  Zoho offers an impressive suite of applications for individuals and business users.  From word processes to CRM (Customer Relationship Management) to database development Zoho seems to cover the needs of almost any small business.  The New York Times recently reviewed Zoho’s word processing features and concluded they beat Google Apps and even present a valid challenge to Microsoft.  And of course one of my favorite features is that many of the applications are free.

Need to spend a lot of money to get a functional website…think again.

What do the following websites all have in common:  www.theonion.com, http://news.van.fedex.com/ and www.beyonceonline.com? If you said they all use the open source Drupal website engine you would be correct.  One of the great things about open source software is that it makes great software freely available to anyone with a computer and internet connection.  Drupal is a excellent example of the power and versatility of open source software.  Technically Drupal is a content management system, which is a term used to describe website software that allows users to easily create, manage and upload content onto the website.  Drupal is a very powerful open source content management package used for many sites, including ktgdenver.com.  Drupal is so powerful because it is customizable and you can install add-ons from allowing you to create an e-commerce site, or an online discussion room.  At the core of the Drupal software package is a website engine that is very stable and secure.  Recently Drupal received extra media attention because is was used for the US Government’s new site www.recovery.gov.  So before you shell out several thousand for a custom website you may find a great open source alternative for free.
